David Laws, MP for Yeovil constituency, has called on the Government to hold an inquiry into the Iraq war.
Today (Thursday 20 March) marks the fifth anniversary of the start of the war. During this time, 175 British servicemen have lost their lives, along with over 4,000 other soldiers and over 80,000 civilians. The war has cost the British taxpayer £6.5 billion.
The Liberal Democrats are tabling a motion in the House of Lords stressing the importance of an inquiry, and calling for it to start by the next session of Parliament.
David Laws MP said,
“The Government must now listen to the British people and hold a full public inquiry into the Iraq war.
“There are many unanswered questions about how and why Tony Blair’s Government took us to war in Iraq five years ago. The British public and all those who have served in the armed forces in Iraq deserve answers to these important questions.”
