David Burrowes invites Ed Miliband MP to visit volunteers in Enfield Southgate

David Burrowes, Member of Parliament for Enfield Southgate, took the opportunity of Volunteers Week to see and participate in some of the varied activities in the constituency involving volunteers.

On Thursday David joined in as a volunteer at Arnold House (see photo), the Leonard Cheshire Home for adults with disabilities. David participated in the morning activities including a game of Bruce Forsyth’s “Play Your Card’s Right”. Later in the morning David was joined by Ed Miliband MP, Minister with responsibility for the Voluntary Sector. Mr Miliband was fulfilling a promise from a debate in Parliament last year when David highlighted the good example of Enfield in relation to young people volunteering and invited the Minister to see the project for himself in Enfield Southgate.

Several of the young volunteers came to Arnold House and explained to the Minister what motivated them to be part of YAVE programme.

David said, “I was pleased to show Ed Miliband around Arnold House and for him to meet some of the young people who had benefited from the youth volunteering programme. Enfield sets a good example when it comes to encouraging volunteering and others should follow suit.”

On Friday David visited the Enfield Camera Club (see photo to follow) to see the exhibition on at Forty Hall. He saw how the club like many others depends on the enthusiasm and commitment of a small number of volunteers. He said, “Get down to Forty Hall to see the camera exhibition and the fruit of these volunteers labours!”
