BURROWES EXPRESSES GRAVE CONCERN OVER CHILD BENEFIT SCANDAL
Enfield Southgate MP, David Burrowes has expressed his deep concern over the announcement made yesterday by the Chancellor of the loss of personal data of 25 million families.
“As a parent of six children, whose details will have been amongst those lost by HMRC, I share the concern of millions of families that the Government seems incapable of dealing with our personal information in an adequate and safe way and wondering how on earth this situation occurred.”
“It is unbelievable to think that the names, addresses and dates of birth of my children and those of my constituents' children and all our bank account details and national insurance numbers have gone missing and could get into the wrong hands.”
“This whole fiasco seriously calls into question the Government’s continued push for Identity Cards to be rolled out across the nation. If they cannot safely deal with one set of data, why should we trust them with even more of our personal details on a national database?”
“The Government's competence and credibility has got lost in the post with our child benefit details.”
