Merthyr & Rhymney Duo Demand Answers by December
Huw Lewis AM & Dai Havard MP have today met with Health Minister Brian Gibbons, and demanded answers to the current uncertainty hanging over future health provision for Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney.
In addition to the current consultation on health re-organisation in South East Wales, the North Glamorgan NHS Trust has recently announced merger talks to take place with Pontypridd & Rhondda NHS Trust.
Both Mr Havard and Mr Lewis have raised serious concerns regarding the relocation of services away from Merthyr & Rhymney, the area with the most serious health inequalities in Wales.
Speaking after the meeting Huw Lewis said,
“People in Merthyr & Rhymney really do deserve some firm guarantees about the future of health provision in the area. We have been presented with no shortage of plans and potential reorganisations, but what we want is actual service delivery. We want guarantees about future improvements at Prince Charles Hospital and we want the building of the long promised town hospital in Merthyr to get underway.”
Dai Havard MP added,
“There is currently unacceptable uncertainty and concern regarding the future of healthcare in Merthyr & Rhymney. We pressed this fact upon the Minister and have asked for a speedy and comprehensive response to the consultation – by December – so that health officials can get on with the process of delivery.”
