Breast Cancer Service Pledge

Prince Charles Hospital has been working with breakthrough breast cancer to launch a local Service Pledge.  The Service Pledge is a tool to enable patients and health professionals to work together towards better breast services and gives breast cancer patients a voice and enables staff to see their service through a patient’s eyes.

Prince Charles Hospital is one of 10 hospitals currently working on the Service Pledge and the first Welsh hospital to launch a local Service Pledge.  As part of the Service Pledge, Breakthrough carries out patient interviews and a patient questionnaire at each participating hospital and shares this feedback with staff. Feedback from patients at Prince Charles Hospital was overwhelmingly positive.

The Pledge leaflet sets out the high standards of service available to all breast cancer patients and also the improvements, suggested by patients that the team is working towards.  The Service Pledge will be available in both English and Welsh

Dai Havard MP attended the launch of the Prince Charles Hospital Service Pledge and met the Breast Care Nurses Diane Jehu and Tanya Ball and patents who have helped develop the pledge at Prince Charles Hospital.

Dai Havard MP said: “Patients and their families and friends have a personal journey to make to get well. Signing Breakthrough’s Service Pledge for Breast Cancer  will help empower patients for that journey. Listening to patients in a structured way will give real information to health professionals to give the best possible breast cancer service. The Valleys is the best place to lead the way in improving these services and I am proud that PCH is the first hospital in Wales to sign up. It shows the courage and commitment of all those who work at PCH to give the highest possible standard of care to local people.
