‘Money With Your Name On It!’ – Claim It! MP Tells Voters
Dai Havard MP for Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney and Huw Lewis AM took to the streets of Merthyr on Saturday with a giant ‘phone number to remind voters to register for the ‘money with their name on it!’
Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit will give large increases to those on incomes up to £50,000. The money is paid through the tax system.
Dai Havard MP said:
“St David’s Day was a good opportunity to remind voters to claim what is there for them. Thousands are claiming but many are not. Even if you can’t claim, someone in your family can so everyone should to pass the message on.”
“Gordon Brown has provided more money for children and families in addition to Family Allowance, the majority of families are likely to get some benefit. The allowances are not just for those with children. Anyone in a lower paid job should ‘phone and claim the money they are entitled to.”
The credits are part of a redistribution agenda that I welcome. Tax based on the ability to pay coupled to a system that redistributes as well as collects money makes for a more progressive tax system. These credits are the way that the money can be paid to those that need it. Mothers in particular are at the centre of the child support system with money paid to them for the family. I voted for the Tax Credits, so my advice is claim them! ‘Phone 0800 500 222”.
Mr Havard has also been in contact with the Education Departments in Merthyr and Caerphilly Councils asking them to agree to distribute a letter for every child to take home to help get more families to claim the credits.
