Robert Marshall-Andrews
Power Station at Kingsnorth - Planning Application to be heard this evening, 2nd Jan
Mr Marshall-Andrews said, “On Tuesday, 18 Dec 2007, Yvette Cooper MP published the Government’s new Planning Policy Statement (PPS): Planning and Climate Change that I feel Medway Council’s Development Control committee should consider prior to determining the planning application for E-ON's new Coal Fired Power Station at Kingsnorth.
“The PPS on climate change means that all councils are expected to set percentages of energy for new development to be generated from local renewables or low carbon sources.
“Councils will also need to take account of climate change when considering new developments – including options for low carbon energy
“The Medway Council’s published agenda for tonight’s meeting makes no reference to the PPS supplement paper as it was published after agenda papers were written.
“It is my view is if no consideration is made by officers or members of the said PPS paper then the Council’s committee should move for deferment to allow proper consideration of this material change in National Planning Guidance.”
