Medway MP Welcomes New Cardiac Unit at Medway Hospital
Bob Marshall-Andrews said, "I am delighted that Medway Hospital is to get a new angiography and angioplasties cardiac unit that will be open for angiographies this year and angioplasties next year. Angiography followed angioplasties, a day surgery, are replacing the older invasive bypass operations that patents often took weeks to recover from. This new service will allow patients to be treated locally, going home the same day. A great improvement on the current arrangements that sees patients travelling up to London."
The new unit is part of the £14 million that the Kent and Medway Health Authority has been given to spend, over the next three years, on transforming cardiac services for local residents. The money will create a network of angiography and angioplasties treatment centres, across Kent, which will be IT linked to each other and other centres in south east London. The network will produce a high quality specialist service that delivers locally.
