Rural bus challenge
Last year the Government invited local authorities and Passenger Transport Authorities to bid for Government funding in the fifth annual Rural Bus Challenge competition, a competition aimed at encouraging innovation and improving the provision and promotion of rural public transport. The Government having considered carefully the bids from local authorities to this competition has announced that Medway's bid and 45 others have been successful.
Bob Marshall-Andrews said, “Can I pass on my congratulations to the Officers of Medway Council who have successfully won the award of £336,435 for bid based upon tackling rural social exclusion and isolation. Although the majority of my constituents live within the Town's urban area and fair number live a good distance away in the rural villages on the Hoo Peninsula and this award will go some way in tackling the social problems they experience.”
