Cliffe airport: Medway MP meets with Alistair Darling
Yesterday, the 4th November, Bob Marshall-Andrews had another meeting with Alistair Darling, the Government's Secretary of State for Transport, to repeat his views that the case has not been established for a new hub airport in the South East and that the site at Cliffe would, in any event, cost massive and unacceptable damage both to communities and to the environment.
Following that meeting with the Minister, he had discussions with two representatives from London Manston Airport, Tony Freudmann, Managing Director and Paul Tipple, Head of Strategy and Development, in order to explore the scope for expansion in passenger and freight facilities.
Bob said, “The meeting was very productive and I am most impressed, both by the analysis and the opportunities which are presented by the development at London Manston. Whilst it may not be suitable for the creation of a new “hub” airport, the development of Manston can plainly do much to relieve the pressure on current aircraft movement.”
Bob is arranging to visit Manston in the near future in order to take discussions further.
