Medway MP Welcomes New Treatment Centre to Cut Day Surgery Waiting Times
Bob Marshall-Andrews said, "I welcome the announcement, by Health Minister Dr Stephen Ladyman MP, that Mercury Health has been appointed the preferred bidder for the contract to provide a new Treatment Centre for Medway and Swale Primary Care Trusts. Over five years, from April 2005, the contract with Mercury will give the two Trusts 4000 additional day surgery operations a year, which when combined with the existing NHS capacity at Medway Maritime Hospital will provide a high quality service - reducing waiting treatment times for local residents. And be assured that the new service will be provided free under the NHS."
"I understand that Mercury Health is now looking for an appropriate site to locate their treatment centre that has good transport infrastructure links to serve both the populations of Medway and Swale. I do hope they consider locating the centre on the Medway Maritime Hospital site, as the long term spin off may well see the hospital becoming a specialist in day surgery care.
