Coventry North East MP, Bob Ainsworth, has repeatedly raised concerns about road safety at the Stoney Stanton Road roundabout and has continually called on the Council to install traffic lights to cut accident rates.
Until recently the Council had resisted pressure to introduce traffic lights to the area. However, in a letter to Bob Ainsworth the Council have now confirmed that they are finally considering the installation of traffic lights. This follows the Councils confirmation that accident rates at the roundabout have not fallen despite a number of safety measures being introduced.
Bob Ainsworth said:
“I consider this roundabout to be the most dangerous in the city and therefore the introduction of traffic lights is absolutely necessary if we are to cut accident rates.
“I have had the support of the police throughout on this matter and I can only hope the council will go ahead with this installation without delay.”
