Coventry North East MP, Bob Ainsworth, has arranged to meet with James Russell, Head of Planning and Transportation at Coventry City Council, to discuss their proposal for a bus lane on Ansty Road. The meeting is on Friday 4th March at 2pm in Committee Room 5, Council House.
Bob Ainsworth has invited a small delegation of constituents and the three Wyken Ward Councillors to attend the meeting.
The Councils proposal to put in a bus lane the full length of Ansty Road will cost £1.3 million plus all the costs associated with design and consultation, which the council have not quantified.
Bob Ainsworth said
“I have arranged this meeting in the hope that we can persuade the Council to rethink this proposal. They are planning on spending huge amounts of money putting in a bus lane the entire length of Ansty Road, which in my opinion and that of many of my constituents is completely unnecessary. We need bus lanes where buses are being held up in traffic, not where they are considered easy to build, but will result in no benefit.
“We have other issues to spend our highways budget on, like providing off road parking facilities for people who live in places like Sewall Highway, so that traffic flow can be improved. We also have a very dangerous roundabout at the junction of the North South Road and Bell Green Road waiting for funds to make it safe.
“These are greater priorities in my opinion and I hope that the Council will have the good sense to reconsider spending so much money on a bus lane that will have no benefits.”
