MP to address Neighbourhood Watch conference

Local Coventry North East MP Bob Ainsworth will be attending, as guest speaker, the Neighbourhood Watch Conference on Thursday 25th September 2003 at the Britannia Hotel, Fairfax Street, Coventry.  The event will commence around 6:30pm.  Also present will be representatives from the police, Coventry City Council and Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators.

The conference aims to bring together all Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators to share good practise ideas.  The focus of the conference will be on the way forward for Neighbourhood Watch with the opportunity for neighbourhood watch co-ordinators to discuss issues with the relevant sector officers for their area and also receive valuable crime prevention advice.

During the event there will be a presentation ceremony with Bob Ainsworth presenting awards to long serving schemes in recognition of their good work and commitment over the years.

Bob Ainsworth says “Tackling crime and the fear of crime cannot be left to the police alone.  There are record numbers of police in Britain today totalling 129,603, but we need to supplement there efforts with Neighbourhood Watch Schemes which are now running in several parts of Coventry.  The voluntary activity of Neighbourhood Watch schemes is irreplaceable.  They can make a huge difference and are very highly regarded by the police who are keen to get schemes started.”
