MP WELCOMES REVERSAL OF PROPOSED CUTS AT FOLESHILL FIRE STATION

Bob Ainsworth, MP for Coventry North East, welcomed the proposed changes to fire cover that are being made to the West Midlands Fire Authority.

The recommendations had been to reduce 15 fire appliances across the region, two of which were to come from Coventry.  One from Coventry Station, Radford Road and the other from Foleshill Fire Station.

This number has now been dropped to 13 and the proposed cut at Foleshill has been reversed.

Bob Ainsworth, who met firemen at Foleshill said:

“I said at the time that the firemen had some very good arguments and that while I agreed with the need for modernisation, these arguments would have to be addressed because we could not have a situation where potentially lives were being put at risk.

“I am enormously pleased to see that the proposal now is to keep two fire engines at Foleshill.  I think this is a sensible response to the powerful arguments put to me by the people who have to do the job”.
