Bob Ainsworth, Coventry North East MP, has questioned the Councils priorities and good sense in proposing to spend huge amounts of money putting a bus lane in the full length of Ansty Road.
Ansty Road is a duel carriageway and buses are never held up by traffic for most of its length.
There is maybe a case for a bus lane on the approach to the traffic island by the Forum shopping centre and also on the approach to the island at Clifford Bridge Road.
The Council propose to put in a bus lane for the entire length of the road, this will cost £1.3 million plus all the costs associated with design and consultation which the Council have not quantified.
Bob said:
“We need bus lanes where buses are being held up in traffic not where they are considered easy to build, but will result in no benefit. We have other issues to spend our highways budget on like providing facilities for people who live on roads like Sewall Highway to park their cars off the road and improve traffic flow. We have a very dangerous roundabout at the junction of the North South Road and Bell Green Road waiting for funds to make it safe.
“This is a wrong headed priority in my view and I hope the Council will think again.”
