Miss Anne McIntosh, MP for the Vale of York and Shadow Floods Minister, is re-visiting flood hit areas in Sheffield and will meet those businesses affected by the summer floods, at Meadowhall Shopping Centre on Friday 28th March, at 11.30, to meet Mr Mohammed Dajani, Chief Executive of Meadowhall Shopping Centre and accompanied by Alan Lyons, Investor Developer Manager of Creative Sheffield.
Miss McIntosh said “This is a good opportunity to revisit those businesses and properties that were affected by the floods. Although the floods may have receded, many businesses were damaged which impacted on their sales. I hope to talk to some of them, to gain further understanding of the problems they have faced in the process of clearing up and what work still needs to be done. The damage to Meadowhall Shopping Centre was devastating, and disrupted business greatly. I shall also discuss flood prevention, flood defence and warning systems in Sheffield.”
“The devastating effects of the floods in Sheffield must not be forgotten. Over 1,000 businesses were affected, significant damage was done to roads and infrastructure, and over 1,400 people attended reception centres. More tragically, two people lost their lives in the incident. I want take a powerful message back to Westminster as to what must be done in the future to protect areas such as Sheffield.”
