Stockport MP Ann Coffey has welcomed the new Adult Learning Grant, which is aimed at people going back to college to study full-time for their first level 2 or level 3 qualifications (equivalent to five or more GCSEs grade A – C or two A levels). With payments of up to £30 a week if you qualify for the grant, the ALG is there to help with costs like travel, childcare and books.
Ann Coffey said:
“Stockport College has lots of courses on offer. If you’re going back to college, it’s well worth finding out if you are eligible for the Adult Learning Grant. Concerns about money don’t have to hold you back if you want to learn new skills and get the right qualifications for a better job.”
Jacquie Campbell from Stockport College said:
“Many of our mature students have already applied for the Adult Learning Grant and they say that without it they would find completing their course a struggle, financially. If you are still thinking about returning to study and would like some advice about the Adult Learning Grant and other types of funding please come and speak to our advisers in Student Services.
Janet Jackson, Learning and Skills Council Partnership Manager, said:
"There is still a chance for adults from across Stockport to get money to help them learn, embrace new skills and improve their job prospects. There are still some places left on college courses in Stockport, plus if you've over 19 and already signed up to a course you may still be able to claim the Adult Learning Grant. The Adult Learning Grant pays up to £30 per week for full time learners aged 19 and over who are studying for certain qualifications and this can really make the difference”
