Currie & Balerno News (local issues)
The regeneration of Balerno’s Main Street and the condition of the road surface is a big issue for the community. I wrote to Edinburgh City Council asking if they would meet representatives from Balerno Community Council and Balerno Village Conservation and Development Forum on site. I’m pleased to say this meeting took place and as a result the Council are costing a proposal for the next financial year to replace the broken paving stones with asphalt. There is still some way to go to in the regeneration of Main Street but it’s a positive step forward.
In Currie, I was very pleased to open the Currie Horticultural Show and present prizes. This is great day for the community and I encourage you to get involved by supporting the event or even join the club and grow your own prize winning fruit, vegetables or flowers!
I also met with Currie Community Council last month. These meetings provide me with the chance to listen to local concerns and hear local views on issues. A wide range of topics was discussed from telephone masts and trams to immigration and climate change.
I agreed to make further enquiries about Gillespie Crossroads and whether there are any plans for a pedestrian crossing and traffic lights. I also agreed to establish if any assistance is available to provide paid management staff for the local Youth Club which belongs to the community.
I will keep you up to date with progress on these issues.
