Whitehead stitched up by young first aiders

Last week Alan Whitehead visited young first-aiders at Oaklands school as part of a campaign to boost Britain’s first aid skills.
The Red Cross campaign “Life. Live it” involves visiting schools, giving practical first aid demonstrations and explaining just how vital first aid skills can be. Three million people go to hospital each year with injuries that could have been helped by first aid, including one million children and young people.
During the training session Dr Whitehead entrusted Oaklands students to set his arm in a sling and to dress a simulated arm wound.
On completing the day Dr Whitehead said:
“Every young person should have the chance to learn first aid. That’s why I’m backing the QCA [Qualifications and Curriculum Authority]’s proposals to incorporate a specific requirement to teach first aid to all key stage 3 pupils.
“My thanks and congratulations to the Oaklands students who helped me today. My arm has never felt better!”
