WHITEHEAD CONGRATULATES BELLEMOOR SPECIALIST STATUS
Dr Alan Whitehead, MP for Southampton Test, has congratulated Bellemoor School for its success in becoming a specialist school in Mathematics and Computing.
The announcement that Bellemoor’s application for specialist status had been successful was made by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools and Learners, Adrian Adonis.
87 schools were designated as specialist schools in Mr Adonis’s announcement, bringing the total number of specialist schools to 2886- 88% of all eligible state secondaries.
As part of Bellemoor’s application for specialist status, the schools had to produce a development plan with a Community element, demonstrating how the school would be both a centre of educational excellence and an active partner in the learning community together with other local schools and businesses.
Dr Whitehead said:
“This granting of specialist status recognises some of the excellent practice that teachers and pupils at Bellemoor have been a part of. I am particularly pleased that the specialist status recognises Bellemoor’s work to link up with other local schools- which is something I have advocated for some time in my work with the Southampton Education Trust. Bellemoor’s work with Shirley Juniors to set up a Junior Science Club is an excellent example of the benefits of such joined up schemes.”
