Whitehead’s Green Group Rewards Parliamentary Action On Sustainable Energy

Winners of the prestigious annual All-Party Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group (PRASEG) Sustainable Energy Awards, of which Alan Whitehead is chair, last night recognised outstanding achievements by parliamentarians, NGO’s and Individuals in Westminster at a celebration dinner.

The Annual PRASEG Awards aim to reward efforts which encourage Westminster to adopt policies favourable to; renewable energy, combined heat and power and energy efficiency in four categories: House of Commons, House of Lords, NGO and Outstanding Individual Achievement.

The awards were presented by Malcolm Wicks, the new Minister of State for Energy and Sustainable Development, and the evening was hosted by BBC Environment Analyst, Roger Harrabin. The dinner was sponsored by Scottish and Southern Energy and E.ON UK at the Commonwealth Club in London.

Dr Alan Whitehead MP, Chair of PRASEG said:

“I am thrilled that PRASEG is able to recognise the hard work of so many Parliamentarians and individuals who have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of sustainable energy policies. This year was no exception as we were yet again presented with a formidable array of potential candidates, a very strong shortlist, and exceptional winners. I thank everyone who has been supportive of PRASEG’s work and congratulate them on their continued commitment to raise awareness of sustainable energy policies.”

Winners commented on their success last night:

A Lambeth Palace spokesperson, commenting on the House of Lords award won by the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury said:

“The Church of England has made climate change and environmental sustainability central issues in recent years, at home and overseas. This award for the Archbishop of Canterbury from PRASEG members is a timely recognition of the central role people of faith have in providing for the responsible stewardship of our planet.”

Nick Hurd MP, winner of the House of Commons Award said:

“I was delighted to receive the award. At this pivotal time for energy policy, PRASEG does an important job in making the case for more sustainable energy”
Fay Mansell, Chair of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes said:
“We are very proud and honoured to have won the PRASEG NGO Sustainable Energy Award. This award celebrates the WI’s commitment to sustainable energy projects and recognises the contribution our members have made in their communities in working towards a sustainable future.”
David Green, Chief Executive of UKBCSE and winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Energy Award added:

“I am honoured to receive this prestigious award from PRASEG. To me it marks not only what I may have done, but what many of us have done over many years to move sustainable energy from the margins to the mainstream. Our challenge now is to maintain the momentum for delivery”
