Alan Whitehead MP faces The Big Ask

Harbour Lights Picturehouse is proud to be hosting a special screening of Al Gore’s AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH as part of The Big Ask campaign. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Southampton Test MP Alan Whitehead.

The Big Ask campaign is being run by Friends of the Earth, and is challenging MPs to back the simple solutions that are needed to tackle climate change. The campaign has resulted in the Government to introduce the Climate Change Bill, so now it’s down to our MPs to make it work.

A spokesperson from Friends of the Earth said:
"Many people will watch An Inconvenient Truth and wonder what our own Government is doing to tackle climate change. The Big Ask cinema night is an opportunity to find out by putting questions directly to your MP."

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, winner of two Academy awards in 2007, is a documentary following Al Gore’s attempts to publicise Global Warming. It was released to excellent reviews, and manages to cut through all of the posturing by governments and groups to present a clear case for the environmental problems facing our Planet.

The film is followed by a Q&A session with Alan Whitehead MP. It will be a chance for local people to have questions of local, national and international importance answered. This is an opportunity to see if our MP can handle the heat on climate change.

Alan Whitehead MP said:

“Al Gore’s film is a stark warning of what the cost of doing nothing to combat climate change will be.  I encourage everyone in Southampton to come and see it.

I back the Big Ask’s campaign for a strong climate change Bill, including annual reports to Parliament on progress in cutting our carbon emissions.  I am currently on the Parliamentary committee scrutinising the Bill and am working hard to make sure it is as strong and effective a Bill as possible.”
