Birmingham International Airport Dispute - Latest

1 December 2005

Amicus negotiators were  prepared to call a truce for four weeks over the Christmas period to allow families their Christmas break abroad. Unfortunately the union has been faced with intransigent negotiators who have dismissed our proposals out of hand.

Following 26 hours of negotiations held over the last few days and despite the union's proposals to prevent disruption over the Christmas period, Birmingham International Airport are still willing to allow passenger disruption.

Peter Coulson, Amicus Regional Officer says,

"We have approached BIA with a proposal that will prevent disruption to passengers and allow flights over the Christmas period whilst we endeavour to continue discussions to resolve the dispute. We are sensitive to public opinion during this period, we realise that many families have saved up all year for a Christmas holiday and we do not intentionally wish to inconvenience their arrangements.

Unfortunately we are faced with intransigent negotiators who have dismissed our proposals out of hand and are willing to allow passenger disruption."

Amicus have been in protracted negotiation with BIA for 26 hours to try and resolve the present situation regarding their two members who have been dismissed.
