Amicus condemns redundancies at John Dickinson Stationary Limited

21 December 2005

Amicus has condemned plans to make 45 redundancies at stationary company, John Dickinson at Washington, Tyne and Wear. The union is also opposing plans by the company to attack employee’s terms and conditions of employment.

Amicus say that the company plans to reduce wages, sick pay and extend holiday factory shutdowns for staff are unacceptable. Also an increase in weekly working hours from 37½ to 40 hours with no extra pay and altering shift patterns may spark industrial action at the site.

Amicus’ Regional Officer, Malcolm Appleby, said:

"This represents a viscous attack on our members terms and conditions of employment and these terms cannot be accepted. We are meeting with the company to discuss the options but, unless the current proposals are withdrawn we will be looking to ballot our members to take industrial action."

Amicus has already met with management. The consultation period has been extended to 25th January 2006.
