Amicus members strike tomorrow after rejecting a new pay offer

21 November 2005

Engineers working at First Bus in Cheshire will strike on Tuesday 22nd November and Friday 25th November 2005 after rejecting a new pay offer made by the company.

Members of Amicus trade union at First Bus in Wirral and Chester put their industrial action on hold on Friday 18th November to consider the new pay offer but the workers say the revised pay offer is still not enough to resolve the pay dispute. Amicus engineering members at First Bus are also operating an overtime ban.

Regional Officer, Lawrence Chapple-Gill, said:

"We are disappointed that First Bus have still not delivered an acceptable offer which will put an end to this dispute."

"Our members have waited long enough for their pay levels to compare with similar workers in the surrounding areas and do not want to wait any longer."

Our members voted overwhelmingly in early September to take industrial action after rejecting a pay offer of 4% from April and extra 1.5% from October, then 3.5% from April 2006 they say leaves them lagging behind employees working in similar roles in other companies.

Amicus says it is meeting with First Bus and ACAS tomorrow to try to resolve the situation.
