First Bus revise pay offer to avert strike planned for tomorrow

17 November 2005

Engineers working at First Bus in Cheshire have called off a strike planned for tomorrow (Friday 18th November) after the company came back with a revised pay offer.

Amicus say that the full details of the offer are being outlined to members between now and Monday (21st November 2005) to see if it is enough to resolve the pay dispute.

Amicus members at First Bus in Wirral and Chester voted overwhelmingly in early September to take industrial action after rejecting a pay deal.

Regional Officer, Lawrence Chapple-Gill, said:

'Our members have agreed to suspend strike action scheduled for tomorrow to discuss the new offer on the table but it still may not be enough to resolve the situation."

"Whatever the outcome of the consultation with our members on the revised pay offer, we are pleased that the company has come back with an improved proposal and that this has been achieved through our members working in solidarity."

Industrial action is still scheduled to go ahead on Tuesday 22nd November and Friday 25th November. Amicus engineering members at First Bus are also operating an overtime ban.

Our members say that an offer of 4% from April and extra 1.5% from October, then 3.5% from April 2006 is not enough to reduce the pay gap between them and other employees carrying out similar roles in other local companies.
