Amicus' response to speculation that the government is looking to extend paternity rights for fathers.
Derek Simpson, General Secretary of Amicus, said:
"Amicus welcomes the extension of paternity leave to six months for men, which is preferable to transferable maternity leave which fathers will not qualify for if their partners are not working. However, working fathers will be unlikely to be able to afford to take up the new right without pay. The birth of a new child is one of the most expensive times for a family, and without pay, paternity leave for new fathers will remain out of reach."
