Institute Chairman Urges Marketers to Earn Their Board Room Seat

25 January 2006

  • Paul Gostick re-appointed as Chair of The Chartered Institute of Marketing
  • Marketers to face upcoming professional challenges including Olympics 2012

London – 25 January 2006 – At its recent AGM The Chartered Institute of Marketing announced the results for its Board of Trustees elections, including the re-election of International Chairman Paul Gostick. Following his re-appointment Paul pledged that The Institute will continue to promote high marketing standards, and encourage marketers to demonstrate to their board room colleagues the positive ROI professional marketing brings to an organisation’s bottom line.

In agreement with Paul, Institute president, Lord Heseltine said; “Marketers really do need to bring themselves forward as the key drivers for business success, particularly with regards to the marketing skills needed for the forthcoming Olympics in 2012. Already the bolder and more energetic elements within UK Plc are clamouring to market themselves in what is sure to be not just a sporting, but also a sponsorship bonanza. In addition, with over 800 items of legislation expected from the EU, the next couple of years will be crucial for marketers who need to keep pace with the ever changing developments, which is where The Institute can be of real value to them.”

In reviewing The Institute’s activities, Paul commented; “We have worked hard over the last two years and now have a good financial base to implement new initiatives for members and move forward with our plans for growth. Members tell us that their membership itself continues to have a strong status and the “MCIM” letters after their name can make a real difference when it comes to industry authority and recruitment selection. And that’s a consistent message across the world in the countries where we are represented.” he said.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing is the only organisation for qualified marketing professionals that covers all aspects and competencies within the profession. Its Board of Trustees have a term of office for two years. Those elected in the current elections are Richard Allsop, John Flynn, Paul Gostick, Alyson Mar, Professor Peter Tomkins and Professor Steve Worthington. The Trustees who are entering their second year of office are: Dr John Ensor, Dr Lisa Harris, Professor Phil Harris, Dr Brian Smith, and Professor Laurie Wood.
