Press Release
From Blackpool to Birmingham – Lord Heseltine to address Midland Business Community
05 October 2005
Following his opening speech at the fringe debate on ‘localism’ at the Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool on Monday, (3rd October) The Rt. Hon., the Lord Heseltine will be making his way to Birmingham next week to address the Midlands business community on the ‘local’ challenges being experienced.
Lord Heseltine will be Guest Speaker at the 2005 Midlands Marketing Dinner when his topic will be ‘How Marketing can help Tackle the Challenges Facing Industry in the Midlands’. The Dinner, which is organised by The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Midlands Region, takes place at the Trinity Suite, Aston Villa Football Club, Birmingham on Thursday 13th October, 7.30pm for 8pm. The event is open to business men and women throughout the Midlands and tables of eight, as well as individual seats, can be booked by contacting Rae Coton on 08707 770825 or e-mailing admin@cimwestmidlands.co.uk.
The Rt. Hon. the Lord Heseltine CH, is Chairman of the Haymarket Group Limited, but it is in his capacity as President of The Chartered Institute of Marketing that he will address the Dinner. Christine Cryne, CEO, and Paul Gostick, International Chairman, of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, will also attend.
Speaking of the event, Andrew Davison, Chairman of the West Midlands Regional Board of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, said, “The climate of industry in the Midlands has been unstable over the past two decades with the fall-out from the onslaught of lower-costs production in overseas markets and the restructuring of the automotive and 'potteries' sectors. However, Midlands businesses have fought back through mergers and acquisitions, updating technology, outsourcing or internationalising all or parts of their business to lower-cost overseas locations, and in some cases moving away from their original core business.”
