Motorists parking in Northampton town centre will be able to take advantage of even more Pay on Foot parking spaces in the town centre from Monday 3 March.

Northampton Borough Council is converting all 585 parking spaces at St John's multi-storey car park to Pay on Foot to put the shopper in the driving seat. In a Pay on Foot car park you have the flexibility that means you only pay for the amount of time you are parked for.

When you pull into the car park you will be given a ticket at the entry barrier. You can then go into town to shop for as little or as long as you want. Then when you want to leave you simply put your ticket into one of the pay machines and you will only be charged for the time you have parked.

Councillor Brendan Glynane, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member responsible for car parks said: "We want to make life easy for shoppers so you can browse the shops, grab a bite to eat and enjoy spending time in the town centre. Why should your stay be limited by the time on your pay and display ticket? Pay on Foot allows you to explore the town centre at your leisure spending as long as you need to get everything done.

"We now have over 2,000 Pay on Foot parking spaces and over 3,000 Pay and Display spaces available to shoppers, so the choice really is yours. So come and park yourself in Northampton and enjoy everything the town centre has to offer."
