Research Foundation

The MND Research Foundation has a vision of A World Free of MND. Realising this vision means investing funds in research into the causes, treatments and prevention of MND.

The Research Foundation is committed to raising the funding needed to support national and international research efforts to end MND. It is an ambitious project that aims to raise £15 million by 2012. We have recently lobbied the Government to provide match funding of £7.5 million. We have done this by having a Parliamentary reception, meeting with the Prime Minister and other Health Ministers and lobbying Parliament.

The Research Foundation has the following objectives:

  • identifying the causes of MND
  • developing new laboratory models of the disease
  • finding new diagnostic tests for MND so that the disease can be detected earlier
  • fast tracking potentially effective treatments from the laboratory to the clinic and on to people with MND
  • ensuring that everyone with MND in this country has the opportunity to take part in a clinical trial, should they so wish
  • increasing the number of doctors and scientists conducting research on MND
facilitating sharing of knowledge amongst scientists
  • improving the care of people with MND.
