Sir Michael Latham, Chairman, CITB-ConstructionSkills

Sir Michael Latham joined CITB-ConstructionSkills as Chairman in April 2002.

In addition to the Chairmanship of CITB-ConstructionSkills, he is President of the European Construction Institute, and holds a variety of positions in the construction industry. He is also a visiting Professor at the University of Central England

He was educated at Cambridge, and has been involved in the construction industry for over thirty years. From 1993-1996 he worked on a joint Government / industry study on procurement and contractual problems in the construction industry. The final report, Constructing the Team, is known in the industry as the Latham Report.

He was made Chairman of the Review Implementation Forum, and was the first Chair of the Construction Industry Board from 1995 - 1996.

From 1974 - 1983 he was Member of Parliament for Melton, and from 1983-1992 for Rutland and Melton.


Peter Lobban, Chief Executive, CITB-ConstructionSkills

Peter joined CITB-ConstructionSkills as Chief Executive in April 1998. He has been a member of the Board of the Movement for Innovation since its inception.

He was born in Nairn and attended Nairn Academy before going on to obtain an MA Honours Degree in Econometrics at Edinburgh University.

He started work in the Faculty of the London Business School and moved into the human resource area when he joined the Confederation of British Industry. From 1986 to 1998 he held various Directorships within Shell both in the UK and overseas.

He was also Chairman of the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation and was very involved in offshore construction and safety arrangements in the North Sea.

Peter has had long connections with the construction industry. His father was a master painter and decorator, as was his father before him, and Peter worked as an apprentice.
