Forum Brief: Learning Disability Week
This week is Mencap's National Learning Disability Week.
Since 1995, more than five million children and adults with learning disabilities have benefited from opportunities to socialise, enjoy sports and leisure activities and develop their abilities through projects supported by the Community Fund.
Forum Response: The Community Fund
Diana Brittan, chair of the Community Fund, said: "The Community Fund is committed to helping people with learning disabilities lead as full and active a life as possible.
"Supporting projects such as the Rumbles Catering Project and Mencap's Gateway Awards Programme enable people with learning disabilities to increase their skills and self-confidence.
"This empowers them to play a full role within society and their local communities."
Forum Response: Voice UK
Kathryn Stone, director of Voice UK, told ePolitix.com: "It is absolutely brilliant that so many people have had so many opportunities as a result of Community Fund monies.
"The impact that such opportunities have on individual's lives is enormous.
"If one person feels more confident and self-assured then it is all worthwhile."
