David Cameron will today welcome Fifa president Sepp Blatter to Downing Street as England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup reaches its final phase.

Blatter met with deputy prime minister Nick Clegg in the summer but has now accepted an invitation to meet the prime minister.

The Fifa president will watch a bid presentation and meet government ministers as well as senior football figures and bid ambassadors during his Downing Street visit.

Fifa's executive committee will vote on the 2018 and 2022 hosts on December 2.

Cameron told the Sun: "We've got just 50 days left to bring the 2018 World Cup to England. And today is one of the most important. Sepp Blatter is coming to see if we've got what it takes to hold the greatest tournament on earth.

"Let's show him that no country wants this more. I want Sepp Blatter to see just how passionate England is about football, how united this country is behind this bid.

"Let's show him no country is better placed to play host."

Blatter is also expected to hold discussions with mayor of London Boris Johnson while in the capital.
