By Tony Grew
- 3rd December 2010

ParliOut, a workplace equality network for lesbian, gay, bisexal and trans staff, MPs and peers has been created.

The group has been backed by the Speaker, who has agreed to act as its president.

It will be launched on December 20.

MPs Stephen Gilbert, Margot James and Chris Bryant will advise ParliOut as members of its board.

"Parliament as a workplace should set an example in good practice when it comes to equality and diversity," Speaker Bercow said.

"Therefore I am delighted to be able to welcome the creation of the first LGBT network - the first of the equality network groups to be set up on the Parliamentary estate.

"This is another positive step in breaking down barriers in the workplace."

ParliOut aims to provide "a welcoming social forum and a wide informal support network of LGBT people from across Parliament.
