Mrs Gove dragged into EMA fight

By Tony Grew
- 19th January 2011

Shadow education secretary Andy Burnham quoted from an article written by Michael Gove's wife during today's EMA debate.

Gove is married to Times journalist Sarah Vine.

In an article published last week, she wrote: "Like all angst-ridden working mothers, I live in terror of upsetting my cleaner."

Burnham picked up on this quote and tried to paint Gove, and the rest of the cabinet, as out of touch elitists.

He also commented acidly that the women of his Leigh constituency "speak of little else" than the dangers of upsetting the domestic staff.

Tory MPs were not happy and some shouted "shame" at Burnham.

When the education secretary rose to reply, he made much of his admiration for Burnham, but was grave when he called out his shadow for "making a personal comment about a member of my family".

He said he hoped on reflection Burnham would realise his remarks about Mrs Gove were "inappropriate and beneath him" and suggested he withdraw them.

Nothing is below these Labour scumbags - from lovelies like John Prescott and Michael Martin (chosen to be Speaker for his impartiality no doubt) etc using speeches in the Lords to delay the Constituencies Bill to Miliband continuing to whine about cuts when he served in the government which caused these cuts to be necessary, Andy 'I love the NHS second to Everton FC' and 'give me expenses, my wife will go mad' Burnham just shows what a prat he is.
